From the perspective of the annual operating energy consumption of the cooling water systems and chiller units, this paper analyses the energy saving effect of different cooling water design temperature differences. The annual energy consumption of the cooling water system is related to the chiller units, system loads, wet-bulb temperature distribution, and the design temperature difference of the cooling water system. This paper analyses the annual energy consumption level of the cooling water system under four design temperature differences of 5, 6, 7 and 8 ℃ in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou by examples, and finds that if the chiller units’ performance allows, the larger the temperature difference, the more energy saving.
